Hakka traditions lean toward the simple and the dignified. We honour them with the same care as any rite.
Hakka funeral traditions tend toward the simple, the frugal and the dignified, reflecting values the Hakka community has long held. The Taoist rites are conducted with full care but without excess, and the wake commonly runs three, five or seven days as the family wishes.
Taoist priests lead the chanting and the merit rituals (功德), and joss paper and paper effigies are prepared and burned so the departed is provided for. The offerings and the order of the rites follow the Hakka custom, which we always confirm with the family before the wake is set up.
A dignified farewell does not have to be an elaborate one. We arrange the Hakka rites faithfully and with restraint, so the send-off feels true to your family.
We arrange Taoist funerals for every dialect group, each to its own customs. See how we honour the others, or read the full overview.
